During my time with Kalsom as a first-time facilitator, the entire experience needless to say exceeded all my expectations. Despite having the camp online, I knew for sure that one thing these online camps could never take away from us is the deep-rooted values and aims that Kalsom upholds, which is to eradicate education inequality in the country. And indeed during the whole period of preparing for the camp and during the camp itself, that aim was what kept me going. Along with working with new people and creating bonds that came about so quickly due to the passion and love towards this cause that we share despite having never meeting each other in person before.
During the 2 days of camp, it was rewarding to be able to give back to society in a way that was even better than I ever imagined I would’ve been able to do. Seeing the beneficiaries learn so many new things and honestly being amazed by their ability and determination to grasp these learning points made me realise how lucky i have been my whole life and how much I’ve always wanted to give back. During the closing ceremony, hearing the beneficiaries talk about how much they enjoyed the camp and how grateful they were to have been given the opportunity was undoubtedly the best part of the camp, and knowing that I played even a small role in helping to give that impact to them was the icing on the cake.
All in all, I have no regrets at all being a part of the Kalsom family. All I am filled with is gratitude for being able to have experienced this feeling firsthand and I cannot thank Kalsom enough for enabling me to do so and more.Zedrene Zulaikha
